New Intelligence Changing the way people think

Human Skills

The Human Skills represent the fundamental principles that underpin the Behavioural Intelligence Model.  They are delivered as stand-alone short courses or can be integrated into any of the Arts and Sciences.

There is a preferred order to undertake the Human Skills training in however depending on occupation some participants may have developed high levels of knowledge and skills in particular areas and simply require training in the skills they do not possess.

The Human Skills courses include

Reading People

Reading People is one of the foundation Human Skills.  For many reasons people do not always expose their true thoughts to others, especially if they feel threatened, embarrassed, angry, contemptuous, dissatisfied and often their motivation for action is difficult to read.  This program explores the role of verbal and non-verbal cues that allow participants to gain more insight into what others are thinking.

The core principles are:

  • Detecting non-verbal cues
  • Interpreting non-verbal cues
  • Content analysis of verbal cues
  • Understanding motive and personality
  • Congruence between verbal and non-verbal cues
  • Putting into use what is read in others

Reading People can be delivered as a standalone skill or can be combined with other core elements such as emotion, rapport and persuasion.

The Role of Emotion

Many courses wrongly teach participants to remove emotion from all situations yet the latest research strongly disputes this.  Emotion is a complex but pervasive issue that can influence and distort situations and relationships.  It is for these reasons that emotion is the second of the core Human Skills.  The emotion program will provide participants with a deeper understanding of the role of emotion, the functions and triggers for these emotions, the universality of emotion and how to successfully deal with emotion in all types of situations.

The Role of Emotion is a one day program that not only teaches participants about emotions but also tests their ability at detecting them through the use of the Micro Expression Training Tool (METT) exclusively licensed in Australia and New Zealand from the Paul Ekman Group in the United States.

Building and Testing Rapport

Building of rapport is a critical yet second tier human skill as many people are able to function without ever building rapport.  This program teaches participants how to build relationships of trust, understanding, and co-operation in short periods of time.  This ensures that miscommunication and misunderstanding is minimised, thereby enhancing the relationship and the bridge of communication. The course confronts the thinking patterns of the participant and teaches them how to use perspective to manage for biases and perception flaws. It explores how to engage with others who may have opposing or conflicting views without having to compromise integrity.

The program will introduce participants to the following principles:

  • The rapport applications of Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP)
  • Bias and Perception
  • Perspective
  • Non-verbal Communication

The Building and Testing Rapport program can be effectively joined with any of the other Human Skills programs depending on the needs of the participants.

Decision Making

Typically the ability to make decisions is assumed yet even mission critical organisations are now recognising the need to train their personnel in this vital skill.  Participants will understand how decisions are made, the two decision types and how to defend and justify their decisions to those who may have no appreciation for the time critical, ever changing environment in which they were made.  They will also understand how their clients go about making decisions and therefore be able to more strongly influence them if required.

The course will introduce participants to:

  • Decision Process Model
  • Decision Types
  • Decision Environment
  • Decision Attributes
  • Decision Inputs
  • Defensibility of decisions, i.e. Good versus Valid decisions

Influencing People

Influencing Others is a top tier skill, to effectively persuade others participants must understand the role and application of the other Human Skills.  This program teaches participants how to recognise and use various types of power to reduce the reliance on fallback positions.  It highlights tactics used by others to control situations and individuals and provides techniques for countering them. Finally this course doesn’t just teach participants how to persuade using powerful persuasion principles but to fully understand each of these principles and how and why they work in our daily interactions with others.
