Society of Personality and Social Psychology Awards Robert Cialdini

By Bobette Gorden

Just last month, the Society of Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP), the largest Social Psychology organization in the world, honored Dr. Cialdini with the Award for Distinguished Service to the Discipline of Personality and Social Psychology.

Upon the presentation, the selection committee released the following:

“Robert B. Cialdini has made various outstanding contributions to the field of personality/social psychology, most notably in his role as an influential ambassador of our field to other disciplines as well as the public at large. He is a brilliant speaker, who easily conveys the importance of social psychological research. He has written two best selling books that have introduced others to the worth of personality/social psychology. He has taken his expertise and applied it to numerous community projects. For example, with a local Blood Services Organization, he has worked to increase donations. Within a local parks and recreation department, he has worked to reduce littering in public areas. With Chicanos por la causa, he has educated local inner city residents to avoid undue pressure from salesman, merchandisers, and fundraisers. Notably, he has served also as the president of SPSP, the world’s largest organization of social and personality psychologists and as associate editor of the premier journal in the field, the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. He has served on government panels, and testified before Congress. He recently funded the annual Robert B. Cialdini Award in field research, to go to the best empirical research paper applying social psychological theories and methods in field settings. Robert B. Cialdini is an outstanding representative of our discipline and we proudly give him this award.”

We are all very proud to have such an accomplished and honorable scientist at our helm.
